Pharmacy Project.jpg

A Small pharmacy in a village outside of Bukavu, South Kivu Region of the DRC has received some funds from Sol Collaborative to expand its operation as it navigates the Covid-pandemic. Thanks to this collaboration the community is able to purchase much needed medication without having to spend their money on travel to the next closest pharmacy. Additionally, one woman can pay for her schooling in pharmaceuticals as she provides the needed services to the community in the pharmacy. This pharmacy has plans to expand once the boarders between neighboring countries open. With the proceeds of the pharmacy micro loans will be given to hundreds of mothers in the community to provide the nutrition and education needed for their children. As the Pandemic has really affected the operation of the Pharmacy Sol Collaborative is working closely with this organization to ensure its continual success and help it manage the changing market.

Mommas for Burundi.jpg

A local organization of professional women in Burundi has reach out to Sol Collaborative to seek the funds necessary to start a project they have been planning for years. This organization looks at the hardest hit communities around its area and studies what sort of vocations and skills can be most utilized in that local economy. Once they have an understanding of their local market they look to set up a training school which allows the women in the area to get the required training. The projects are sustained by the women who receive the training who then pay to use the facilities as they earn a a living providing services for the area. DZALEKA, Malawi, Refugee Camp: pig husbandry program

In the past two years, already insufficient rations in the refugee camp have been cut to a ¼ of what they were before.

Through our partner Fountain of Hope in the Dzaleke refugee camp of Malawai we are working to provide food security within the camp for the over 30,000 people living within its borders. A currently operating pig husbandry program has proven to be successful and we are now raising funds to broaden its impact by increasing its scale.

This project is essential for the survival and support of this refugee camp for a number of reasons:

1st - animal products are an important source of high-quality, balanced, and highly bioavailable protein and numerous critical micronutrients, including iron, zinc, and vitamins B-12 and A.

2nd - market demand for high quality animal foods will continue to increase while bolstering the overall economy of the refugee camp.

3rd - these farm animals are essential for a complete ecological system supporting the crops raised in the refugee camp and surrounding village by providing high quality fertilizer.

Every dollar given was automatically doubled by a generous grant from the Healing Hands Foundation to ensure the success of this project.

DZALEKA, Malawi, Refugee Camp: Mill Project

in collaboration with healing hands foundation and fountain of hope

Fountain of Hope is a Malawi based organization that has assisted the vulnerable people in Malawi in the DZALEKA refugee camp with a population of over 23,000, since January 2010. FOH (Fountain of Hope) is a community-based response that strives to meet the physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs of the growing number of at risk women, vulnerable youth and children. These individuals are most often survivors of armed conflicts, sexual exploitation, female genital mutilation, and sexual assault. These refugees come from the Great lakes region (Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi), Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Uganda.

By Collaborating with the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation, Sol Collaborative provided funds and supplies needed to build a maize mill in Malawi which has brought more self-sustainability to Fountain Of Hope’s WAR (Women At Risk) community consisting of 446 victims of rape and sexual abuse, and their 671 children.

This project continues to create a beautiful ripple effect. Over 100 more children are receiving an education thanks to a new school built with the proceeds of the Mill. Over 200 women are receiving micro lending and business courses to ensure the success of their small businesses and Mentors International is mentoring the program leaders to ensure success and sustainability.

DZALEKA, Malawi, Refugee Camp: Women Empowerment Project

in collaboration with days for girls

Days for Girls is changing the status quo through quality menstrual care solutions, health education, and income-generation opportunities. In less than 10 years, days for girls has reached one million women and girls in 120+ countries on 6 continents.

With our Partnership with Days for Girls we were able to bring to Malawi 250 hygiene kits. Before receiving a hygiene kit the women were able to attend a clear comprehensive Reproductive Health Course provided by Days for Girls in addition to a Self Defence Course.

Fountain of Hope is now in the process of developing a sustainable plan to source the materials needed to run a Days for Girls Facility in Malawi to provide the needed education and supplies to the tens of thousands of refugees and surrounding community members.

DZALEKA, Malawi, Refugee Camp: Community Micro Lending

in collaboration with Mentors International

With a portion of the money earned from the Mill, Fountain of Hope has started a micro lending program. Refugees and surrounding community members have the opportunity to receive small business loans which they then pay back with affordable interest. This program has successfully ran on a small scale giving loans to approximately 50 people for the past year.

Sol Collaborative reached out to Mentors International to help support this budding micro credit program. Mentors International is a very successful micro lending organization with programs throughout the world. Enyonam, their program director in Ghana, has spent 2 weeks in Malawi working with the directors of Fountain of Hope to help them solidify their program to optimize sustainability. With these new found skills in place and continual mentoring by Enyonam, Fountain of Hope is ready to increase the amount of funding they will be infusing into the community. This will result in a vastly improved economic market in the camp and the surrounding area.
